Creating Fallow

Creating Fallow

A long-term programme examining the importance of rest and rhythm

We are currently fundraising for a programme of work to be known as ‘Creating Fallow’. This will be an intentionally slow-burning (2 year) arts programme based at SAW which asserts the importance of rest, informed by the concept of Sabbath and a respect for seasonality and human limitations.

Through workshops, exhibitions, writing and reflective activities, Creating Fallow will consider the barriers to rest in our society, demonstrate the power of creativity in providing joyful rest, share the project’s theological underpinning and encourage participation in community building over individualistic consumption, in order to inspire and enable others to find joy and peace through taking this topic seriously.

Key questions to be explored:

Can rest catalyse and aid creativity and activism? Can rest (and an understanding of the concept of Sabbath) be a form of resistance in a productivity-obsessed and consumerist world? Could the acknowledgement of our limitations and need for rest be a pathway to strength? Is rest accessible for all?

Watch this space to see how the Creating Fallow programme unfolds.
