There were once 19 pubs in Shieldfield, now there are none.

The Holy Biscuit was transformed into a public house on 20 March 2019 for a unique conversation event where five guest drinkers and one guest bartender talk freely in front of a small audience.

Broadcast Bartender is an improvised conversation event between six guest drinkers and one guest bartender from a fabricated public house environment in the residential area of Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Broadcast Bartender is intentionally improvised so that the conversation may veer off at any time into surprising or unsuspected areas. The aim is to provide an antidote to the Question Time style panel show with well-rehearsed sound bites and speeches that can often alienate the listener and stunt the discussion.

The event took place in front of a live audience at the Holy Biscuit on Wednesday 20th March, 2019.
