    Shieldfield Art Works offers a unique events and meeting space to hire in Newcastle upon Tyne. All income from hires goes towards supporting our community engagement & arts activity. The building as a whole or individual rooms can be hired for public or private events.

    Spaces for Hire

    Gallery Space:

    Ideal for presentations, performances, conferences and lectures. With high ceilings, a small staged area, and bright white walls it’s a spacious, yet inviting room. It has excellent natural acoustics, making it perfect for band, choir or theatre rehearsals.

    Availability of the gallery is dependant on our exhibition programme, please email for for information.

    Workshop Space:

    A more intimate space, this room is ideal for creative workshops, meetings, rehearsals and AGMs. The space includes a sink and worktop area along one wall, making it ideal for art and craft workshops or serving teas and coffees. The sink has a built-in cover, meaning it can also be hidden away if your event does not require it. There is also access to SAW’s kitchen through a hatch.

    Garden Space:

    The garden includes raised beds, wildflowers, apple and cherry trees alongside a grassed area and patio area with a covered pergola. Perfect for events, meetings, outdoor gatherings and retreats.

    Room hire for charities

    As an organisation dedicated to serving the community, we want our building to be used for good. Many charities use SAW regularly, and we can provide space which is welcoming to your groups and participants. Discretionary discounts are available for charities and, in some cases, not-for-profit organisations. Please email enquiries@saw-newcastle.org for further details.

    Garden – the pergola area. The pergola now has transparent PVC roof, which lets light through but keeps the rain off.

    When making an enquiry, it’s helpful to include the following information:

    • If you are booking on behalf of a charity or not for profit organisation – you may be eligible for our charity tariff
    • The date(s) and time(s) you would like.
    • Which space(s) you would like to hire. If you’re not sure, let us know and we can advise based on the type of event and room capacity.
    • Whether your event is private or open to the general public.
