The majority of exhibitions at Shieldfield Art Works are initiated by SAW’s team and our partners, however, we have a commitment to support and encourage both emerging artists and creative practitioners. To complement SAW’s own programme, we allocate specific time periods within the year for open call exhibitions.

Our regular open call opportunity is ‘Take Over’, which usually takes place February – March, with the deadline for proposals in November or December of the previous year. You can find more information here: https://www.saw-newcastle.org/take-over/

Before submitting a proposal, we would suggest artists familiarise themselves with SAW’s ethos, programme and gallery spaces. We would love to support every exhibition proposal, but due to the high volume we receive and our busy SAW programme, we cannot guarantee collaborations.

SAW is a charity, and although we aim to support projects by giving staff time, it is necessary that individuals and groups submitting proposals will have their own funding in place to cover the costs of their project or exhibition.
