The June Appeal
As a team, we want to be transparent about SAW’s financial situation: we currently still need to raise £15,000 before September.
It costs around £150,000 a year to run SAW, and most of our income comes from grant funding. While these chunks of funding let us do so much, it’s become a precarious way of working – the current strain on funding bodies means we can often only apply for short-term grants; this funding can get cut at short notice, or applications can be turned down.
In an attempt to make our funding more sustainable, this month we’ve set a goal: to hit £1,000 per month from regular givers.
Regular donations via direct debit are important to us for so many reasons:
- They show funders that we have a dedicated body of support
- They give us funds to spend wherever we need to (as opposed to grant funding, which tends to be ring-fenced for certain short-term projects)
- Gift Aid from can be claimed from donations which increases the amount we get by 25%
- Most crucially, regular donations give us time and space to focus on the important work we do here.
If you sign up to be a giver this month, we’ll give you a free goodie bag as a thank you!
Even the equivalent of a coffee and cake makes a huge difference to our work:
- £5 per month lets us host a whole year of community lunches.
- £10 per month covers materials for every Craft Action session.
- £20 per month pays for all the seeds, plants, bulbs and soil our growers need in the growing season.
- And £30 per month lets us run our annual Take Over exhibitions, giving a platform to emerging artists in the North East.
