Shieldfield begins with your imagination: a map

Dr Mikey Tomkins invited residents to imagine how spaces in Shieldfield could be repurposed for food growing and as green spaces. During June 2019, Dr Mikey Tomkins, led public walks exploring how the many hidden and public areas of Shieldfield could be transformed to encourage and support local food gardening as a contribution to food security and an improved urban landscape. The resulting map is a start, not a finish; it is an invitation to image Shieldfield as an edible landscape by exploring some of the potential spaces for growing fruit and vegetable in the neighbourhood. A large scale version of the map is permanently displayed in SAW’s Workshop space and can be viewed during exhibition opening hours, although please note there are occasionally workshops or private meetings in the space.
