Rest and Rhythm: Rest

In 2019 SAW released a publication. The publication was the outcome of many months of self reflection and careful consideration, within it’s pages we sought to explore and explain what SAW is, what it has been, and what it aims to be as an organisation. There are several essays within it that explore different aspects of our thinking and practise- here is one of them.

The final state of everything is rest:

not space-time silence won by entropy,

a smear of nothing, futile to suggest

a universe. Instead, a filigree

where angels, stars and people intertwine

in their creator’s endless dance; each moves,

is balanced, gently held in its own line,

by parsec-deep affinities and loves.

For now, enmired in selfhood, loss and greed

we only step ourselves into the dance

by pausing – for a season, bar or beat –

and waiting while the strident sounds recede.

The spreading silence gives our souls a chance

to hear creation’s music, faint but sweet.
